Ice Ages

Alors que l'orage menace, un homme seul, réfugié dans un bar, contemple les cubes de glace qui fondent dans son verre. Le réalisateur de Ice Ages, Howie Shia, marie un style graphique original ainsi qu'une animation subtile et énigmatique à une trame sonore lancinante et évocatrice pour faire naître un climat d'angoisse, d'appréhension. Les dessins à l'encre sur papier-calque sont animés à l'aide de la composition d'images et du coloriage numérique. Ce film a été produit dans le cadre du Hothouse 2, stage de formation offert aux cinéastes de la relève par le Studio d'animation de Montréal. Le thème central de cette deuxième édition était « L'eau et notre rapport à celle-ci ».

An artful, four-way essay about ability, this animated documentary explores how it feels to be a little bit unusual. In her follow-up to her award-winning film, John and Michael, filmmaker Shira Avni pursues a deeper understanding of esteem and disability by inviting Petra, Matthew, Daninah and Katherine to consider their pasts, relationships and ambitions. Tying Your Own Shoes is a hybrid of auteur documentary and animation cinema, two forms with which The National Film Board of Canada has developed a world-renowned expertise over the past 70 years.
