Bryan Adams : Bare Bones

Parmi les auteurs-compositeurs-interprètes du monde entier, Bryan Adams est de ceux dont la popularité ne se dément pas. Mais c'est dans son studio de Vancouver, entouré de sa collection de microphones et de guitares « vintage », qu'il se sent vraiment chez lui. Bryan Adams dit qu'il s'agit d'un « espace très analogique dans un monde très numérique ». Dans ce court métrage documentaire, il nous présente une version intimiste de sa chanson « One World, One Flame » et nous fait part de sa vision du spectacle centrée sur le public : « Je veux que ce soit amusant, que ce soit vrai. ».

In this short documentary about The Tragically Hip, director David Battistella uses a split-screen and acid-etched colours to distil the iconic Canadian band's essence. After decades together, through hotels, highways, gigs and recording sessions, The Hip's members have forged a powerful brotherhood. "These guys are my life partners, musically" says bass guitarist Gord Sinclair. The Hip's brand of straight-ahead rock and roll has catapulted the band to international stardom, and ensured them a place in Canadian musical history, but at heart, they remain a bunch of guys from Kingston, Ontario, making music together just for fun. This film was produced for the 2008 Governor General's Performing Arts Award.

"Humility" and "rock and roll" don't usually go together. And yet, Rush (Geddy Lee, Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson), one of rock's most successful and popular bands of all time, reflect on a career of making music built on craft, heart and an uncompromising commitment to push the limits-to always "get better." Their take on musicianship is cinematically interwoven with the quest of teenage Ontario rock band Inner Volition, who aspire to touch the flame that is Rush. Produced by the National Film Board of Canada in co-operation with the National Arts Centre and the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards Foundation on the occasion of the 2012 Governor General's Performing Arts Awards.
