Black Gold
Aimée van Drimmelen’s Black Gold employs hand-drawn animation layered over stop-motion sequences of moving ink on drumskins to create a striking, mournful portrait of the Alberta tar sands. Created in a cabin in Saskatchewan, this is Aimée’s first animated film. This animated short was made for Hothouse 7, the NFB’s program for emerging filmmakers, whose central theme was “Here Be Dragons”.
